What we’re about
NOTE: This local group is currently inactive, but don't despair! We are searching for a local host. You are welcome at any of the meetings listed. All the events listed here are active RfR virtual events (identified as "Network event") or are meetings cross-posted from other local groups.
We strive to serve as many areas as possible, but we do not have enough volunteers to handle them all. If you are interested in helping to host a meeting in your area, feel free to post a comment here in Meetup, or go to recoveringfromreligion.org/volunteer to apply.
**What Recovering from Religion is about:**Doubt your beliefs? Have questions about changing or leaving your faith?
You are not alone, and we are here to help.
Learning how to live after questions, doubts, and changing beliefs is a journey. We at Recovering from Religion are intimately familiar with this path and are here to help you to cross that bridge. Our passion is connecting others with support, resources, community, and most of all, hope.
The primary focus of a Recovering From Religion support group is to provide ongoing and personal support to individuals as they let go of their religious beliefs. This transitional period is an ongoing process that can result in a range of emotions, as well as a ripple effect of consequences throughout an individual’s life. As such the support meetings are safe and anonymous places to express these doubts, fears, and experiences without biased feedback or proselytizing.
We are here to help each other through this journey.
If you find you need to talk with someone before the meeting date, RfR has a hotline and online chat for that express purpose. Call (844) 368-2848 to speak with someone or go to www.recoveringfromreligion.org to chat online.
If you’re seeking professional help, we can offer the Secular Therapy Project to provide options to connect with a professional therapist. All therapists have been thoroughly vetted by our organization and offer only evidence-based and non-religious treatment. Connect with them at www.seculartherapy.org.

Join us on RfRx this week for what will certainly be a special show! Our guest will be Shelley Segal, and we will be talking about her own recovery from religion, as well as her fascinating musical career.
Shelley Segal is an Australian singer-songwriter recognized for her soulful voice and engaging lyrics. Born in Melbourne, Segal grew up immersed in music and began singing and writing her own songs from a young age. Her song-writing, rooted in folk and pop styles, is distinctive for its fusion of personal narratives with sociopolitical commentary.
In 2012 Segal launched her debut, ’An Atheist Album, drawing attention for its honest exploration of her secular worldview. It showcased Segal's ability to discuss complex themes like religion, politics, and personal freedom through the lens of her own experiences, resonating with a diverse international audience. Her song ‘Saved’ became the intro music for ‘The Atheist Experience.’Segal's subsequent albums, such as "An Easy Escape" and "Holy," further solidified her reputation as a thought-provoking artist unafraid to tackle challenging subjects. She has toured internationally, including North America and Europe, using her music to spark dialogue on human rights, freedom of thought, and the power of dissent.
In addition to her solo work, Segal has collaborated with artists like Adam Levy and DJ Carl Cox, adding depth and versatility to her repertoire. With her evocative lyrics and stirring performances, Shelley Segal continues to push boundaries in music, earning her a unique place in the global music scene. Shelley regularly creates music supporting grass-roots activists and communities, using music to create the world she wants to see.
The first hour will be the topic discussion, followed by a Q&A session in which you can ask the guests your great questions. After the Q&A we’ll open up the lines for everyone and just talk and hangout for a bit with the hosts and guest(s).
