Cafe Philosophique returns to Newcastle in the appealing surroundings of The Kiln restaurant on the Ouseburn. If you have been tempted to ask the biggest questions about love, life and the universe, you are welcome to join with others once a week.

We offer a 10 week programme of ideas that are the mainstay of philosophy that will also be guaranteed to find an echo in your own life.

We discuss in an open minded way, whether or not an After Life exists at all or if such a desire is merely the ego's need for continuity. This group meeting will be explicitly "soteriological" in nature, in that its purpose will be part of an overall need to resolve the big questions of life and death and to alleviate suffering.

Tuesday night discussion is experimenting with a new format: that of drama. Each week we aim to discuss a topic through the method of drama. "Actors" are selected at the start to passionately argue a case (sincerely, not simply "as an act"), remembering that the role of an actor is to communicate for the sake of the audience. "Moderators" will attempt to clarify and contrast what the actors offer, all for the sake of the dramatic encounter. Later, audience members will be invited by the mediators to enter the dramatic encounters set in action. This is philosophy in action, as method, as practise.

No philosophical background or reading is required or expected, and the group is entirely free to attend.
