What we’re about
Edinburgh Skeptics Society promotes science, reason and critical thinking in Edinburgh and Scotland. We have recently launched a Podcast if you are further afield.
Come along if you enjoy thought-provoking talks and discussions and friendly social meets. We have several events each month, as well during the Edinburgh Science Festival and Fringe. Most events are free, but we ask for donations to cover costs (like this meetup group) and speakers' travel and accommodation. We Respect People and Challenge Ideas.
Please RSVP - it helps us estimate numbers. Unfortunately space is limited, so if you are late we may not be able to hold your place.

Dr Gavin Miller - A Cultural History of UFOs in Scotland
Flying saucers, UFOs, and now UAPs have been part of Scottish cultural life since the early 1950s. Leaving aside the question of extraordinary explanations for UFOs, this talk traces a history of Scottish UFOs from the Cold War to the Bonnybridge Triangle. It looks at the different ways in which people have experienced, understood, and made use of UFOs, and the wider histories into which these stories are woven.
Dr Gavin Miller is Reader in Contemporary Literature and Medical Humanities at the University of Glasgow. Alongside the history and culture of UFOs, his research interests include science fiction, the history of the psychological disciplines, and the history of Penguin
