What we’re about
HYBRID event, in-Person location 2000 Central Ave Suite 100 Boulder 80301 - ENTRANCE IS NEXT TO WALL MURAL - WE ARE LOCATED IN TWIN PEAKS ROOM
1MC Boulder is a pitch mentoring platform offers local entrepreneurs an opportunity to present their startups to a diverse audience of mentors, advisors, investors and peers. Presenters deliver a 6-8 minute pitch deck presentation designed for investors, channel partners, co-founders, employees, etc. They then engage in 40 minutes of constructive feedback and questioning that we call crowd mentoring followed by 30 minutes of networking.
Entrepreneurs gain insight into possible ways they can improve their businesses and connect with a peer community that cares about their progress. Participants walk away having advanced their business and the audience walks away with the satisfaction of providing expert crowd-vetted coaching.
Whether presenter, mentor or passive audience member, there is much to learn every week from this dynamic and diverse community. The Kauffman Foundation sponsored program takes place at 9:00 am every Wednesday morning in cities across the U.S.

SusMer (https://susmer.com/) - Jake Larger presenting, is commercializing a chemical manufacturing process for a medical-grade material called P4HB that is great for hernia meshes, tissue engineering, and drug delivery applications.
(NOTE: This is a Hybrid event. In-Person location 2000 Central Ave Suite 100 Boulder 80301 - ENTRANCE IS NEXT TO WALL MURAL - WE ARE LOCATED IN TWIN PEAKS ROOM)
(Meetup only allows 'online' RSVP option - please ignore that, still RSVP if you plan to attend in-person)
Existing materials being used for hernia meshes, such as polypropylene and PLGA, are not helping patients fully recover or have lasting effects. A new biomaterial, called P4HB, has gained and is gaining market share, but it is currently sole sourced from one manufacturer. Since they have been acquired, they are not accepting new customers.
Our target market is medical device companies or CMO/CDMOs in the US, Europe, or Asia who need access to an absorbable, high strength, highly flexible, FDA cleared polymer called P4HB & are willing to pay for this access to expand market opportunities and improve patient experiences.
Our competition is Tepha Inc (now owned by Becton Dickinson). Our competitive advantage is our chemical manufacturing process is more cost effective, and scalable than their microbial manufacturing process.
The total market size of biomaterials of our target products in 2025 is 3.628B and the total market revenue in 2025 is around 10x that for those finished goods.
Top 3 challenges:
- Technical Scale up
- Regulatory approval
- Always having capital
Our 1MC ask: We are always looking to network with experienced individuals in this ecosystem. If you know of someone that works in medical grade biomaterials, or new product development at Medtronic or other large medical device companies, we’d greatly appreciate the opportunity to get connected and learn more about this industry.
