What we’re about

We are a local repertory cinema housed within The Williams Center, a nonprofit performing arts complex located in the heart of Rutherford, New Jersey. Our mission is to provide a home for local cinephiles who have exhausted mainstream multiplexes and are looking for more niche, obscure offerings to further expand their love and knowledge of cinema. From cult classics to forgotten pieces of film history, CUG is dedicated to screening films that are rarely, if ever, shown in New Jersey, taking inspiration from New York’s thriving repertory film scene and transplanting similar offerings in the Garden State.

In an effort to better serve our audience, we are excited to launch four new weekly programming blocks that will screen over the Summer months. Spanning multiple genres and mediums of storytelling, each one scratches a unique cinematic itch while aligning with our mission to expose curious film lovers to a wide breadth of stories.

Mondays see CUG collaborating with Soldato, the Williams’ record vendor, to present a selection of concert films and music documentaries entitled “Soldato Selects: Music at the Movies.” On Tuesdays, animation lovers can enjoy a vast selection of Japanese films in our “80s Anime Showcase.” Wednesdays are dedicated to film history with our “CUG Time Machine” banner, featuring festivals dedicated to the “Czech New Wave” and “New American Underground” movements of the 1960s. Finally, Thursdays rev up the heat with “Retro Rampage,” featuring a host of cult classics revolving around the theme of revenge.

If you love film, we hope you will join us for even one of the incredibly exciting screenings taking place at CUG this Summer. But if you can’t, don’t worry. This is just the beginning.
