Welcome to Westside Tabletop Adventure Games, your gateway to thrilling and imaginative escapades in the vibrant West side of Los Angeles and surrounding areas! Our Meetup Group is a place to discuss and play exciting tabletop adventure games together.
We use "tabletop adventure games" to include various games and communities - roleplaying games, miniature games, board games, old-school, new-school, and many other sources. Such games blend authentic peril, inventive problem-solving, and episodic narratives. In such games, you can expect to encounter the following:
- Genuine risks and the possibility of loss, making your victories even more gratifying.
- A sense of wonder, with the promise of unexpected twists, enigmatic riddles, and breathtaking locales.
- Diverse and compelling experiences, as each session unfolds like an ever-evolving classic pulp tale.
- Challenges that require ingenuity, creativity, and teamwork rather than brute force, endless combat, or solving problems by enumerating abilities from a character sheet.
- Iconic and diverse characters inspired by pop culture and fiction, such as Conan, T'Challa, Ellen Ripley, Lagertha, Indiana Jones, and Nausicaä, to name a few.
- A strong, independent Do-It-Yourself attitude - empowering players and referees to make the games they play their own and even to write their own games whole cloth.

Skies Shall Sunder
Skies Shall Sunder is an old-school, medieval-fantasy tabletop adventure ran in the West Marches style here on the West Side of Los Angeles.This event is the formal "kick off" of the campaign. This will be a time to get together in person, learn more about the campaign, maybe play a short one shot or make characters.
We will be at Paper Heroes, and I am asking them if we can a kind of pizza night, where I will be ordering in a few pizzas for everyone.
What is a West Marches?
A West Marches is a style of campaign where the Referee (what we call the Dungeon Master or Game Master) doesn't book gaming sessions, rather they provide players with their schedule for the upcoming weeks, and players instead chat with each other, decide on goals, and then they use the Referee's calendar to book game nights.We will be using discord to coordinate these games (this event will be mirrored there), so it is important that you are comfortable using Discord, and that you go join our server over here.
A West Marches is also an open table, meaning you are free to only play sessions that you can make it to with no commitment to play in any others! It's a great way to get games in when you like!
Are Beginners Welcome?
Absolutely! No experience is necessary. We will be using a version of old-school D&D, and honestly the game is perfectly playable without knowing very many of the rules.What Do I Need?

Gradient Descent is a bi-weekly open-table scifi horror adventure game, using the Mothership system. (We will post our Player Document here when it is available).
New and beginning players are welcome, and you do not need any supplies - all materials will be provided, but you are free to bring whatever you wish. You are welcome to create a character at the table during the session, or you can contact me and we can schedule a time to create one before hand.
We emphasize player agency, exploration, and world interactivity. Our campaign uses a flexible drop-in/drop-out system that allows you to play when you are available and want to, but not require any kind of a commitment. See our Open Table Info document for additional details.
