Itinerary
Meet near the public toilets at the car park. We start by walking down the A5 through the gap between Moel Famau and Moel Fenlli. We descend down part way into the Clwyd valley until we can turn to walk along the bottom of the Clywdian Range of hills. We walk through farmland and across streams 6mi/10km until we can ascend up to the top of Moel Arthur. The first 5mi/8km is pretty flat, then it turns into a steady ascent before a short but steep push to the top. Will aim for lunch here so we can have views across the Clwyd valley and hopefully views of Snowdonia's mountains in the distance. While up here we can see if we can find the remains of a Roman Fort, or use our imagination!
Once ready, we descend down the Moel Arthur back down to the road, cross over and then ascend up the otherside and follow the Offa Dyke's path along the ridge to and over Moel Dywyll and onto Moel Famau (pictured). This hill has a fort from The Second World War which you can go inside and ontop of. It also has a trig point in the colours of the Welsh Flag!
Once ready, we continue along the Offa Dyke's Path along the ridge and descend back down to the A5. The hike ends here but if there is anyone else into ticking off summits they can join me to ascend up the otherside to tick off Moel Fenlli before heading back to the car.
