This is a 12.0-mile out-and-back trail near Vail, Colorado. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping, and hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
This trail takes you up a steep climb to Gore Lake. You'll hike in and out of the trees, through patches of forest and past vistas of snow-capped mountains. You'll hike past creeks and aspen groves on this beautiful hike.
Heads up! Mountain goats are prevalent at Gore Lake. It is a good idea to keep your distance, keep your pets leashed, and do not approach or feed them.
Campfires are not allowed at Gore Lake in Colorado due to fire restrictions and to protect the alpine vegetation.
