Hiking, Kayaking, and Camping at Wateree State Park, South Carolina

I'll be camping at Wateree State Park in South Carolina from Monday, the 19th of May, to Wednesday, the 21st. I'd like to invite everyone who has the time free then to join me, either by getting a camp site and staying over, or just driving down for a day (about an hour and a half) for a hike or to kayak. Campsites are $60 a night and you can reserve them here: https://reserve.southcarolinaparks.com/lake-wateree as well as learn more about what the park has to offer.

My tent will be set up in camp site #29 at the far end of the campground next to the water, about mid-day on Monday the 19th. I'll be taking a short hike that afternoon on the easy 2.6 mile loop trail, and launching my kayak in the river an hour or so before sundown. Bring your own boat for this event, or rent one with all the gear for $40. Dinner around the campfire that night, and everyone is invited, of course. Just let me know you're coming so I'll know how much food to have on hand.

The next day (Tuesday the 20th) I'll repeat the hike in the morning and put the kayak in the water that afternoon. Same drill as the day before for dinner, just let me know if you'll be there. We'll be nearing a full moon about that time, so an evening on the water ought to be lovely-- weather permitting, of course. You can kayak with us that evening and still load up and make it back to Charlotte well before midnight, or you can reserve a campsite and stay over.

I must strike camp by noon on Wednesday the 21st, but if anyone wants to come down that day for more hiking or kayaking, I plan on hanging around a bit before heading home.

By the way, like all state parks in South Carolina, this one requires a $3.00 entry fee. It's best to have that in loose bills as the entry booths are unmanned and it's on the honor system.
