Razor Clam, Crab, Chiton, Limpet, and Snail Harvest Camping Trip

Details

Description
Picture a weekend on the Oregon coast during Free Fishing Weekend, where you can enjoy bay clamming, razor clamming, crabbing, chiton, limpet, and snail harvesting without needing a license. Start your day digging for razor and bay clams as the tide goes out. Spend your afternoons crabbing off the docks, feeling the thrill of each catch. Explore the rocky shores for snails, chitons, and limpets, adding a unique touch to your coastal adventure. End your day around a beach bonfire, cooking your fresh catches and sharing stories under the stars. This trip promises both a bounty of seafood and unforgettable memories. 🌊🦀🌅
Oregon Location
Why are we heading to Seaside, Oregon for this trip? Oregon has free fishing weekend on June 7th and June 8th. Unlike WA, Oregon free fishing weekend includes free shellfishing which means no license needed! Oregon also allows all shellfish at this time including razor clams, crabs, bay clams, chitons, limpets, and aquatic snails harvesting. Washington never allows harvesting of chitons, limpets, and aquatic snails. Also free fishing weekend means tons of fun free events we can go to during high tide.
Recommended Exotic Species to Target
You can get 10 of these in aggregate. They aren't available to harvest in WA so this is your chance to try them out.

  • Moon snail
  • Periwinkle snail
  • Triton snail
  • Whelk snail
  • Gumboot chiton
  • Black leather chiton
  • Owl Limpet
  • Plate Limpet
  • Shield Limpet

Cost
Camp and Attendance Deposit Cost
$50 attendance deposit + $50 per person for camping 2 nights for a total of $100 initially. The cost should drop to $50 total as long as you don't last minute drop.

Attendance Deposit Refund
Attendance deposit is refunded as long as you drop out before May 21st or attend the event. Attendance deposit only affects people that do last minute drops. After May 21st, attendance deposit still applies to drops even if you find a last minute replacement.

Camp Refunds
Camping refunds are available to all who drop before May 21st or find a replacement at any time.

Parking and Vehicles
We can only take 2 vehicles into the park and there is an additional $7 cost for extra vehicles. The 8 maximum spots will be first come/pay first serve. RSVP for meetup doesn't get you a spot and only payment secures a spot.
Gas costs will be arranged with drivers. For food I prefer everyone try to contribute and share which saves the hassle of needing to calculate and share costs which will be a lot of work.

Payment methods:
Make sure payment is for friends/family

Biotoxin closures
Biotoxin closures are random and can happen at any time. There will be no refund for biotoxin closures. If there is one we will find another specie not impacted by it or find another activity. In addition there is always a risk that Oregon DOH doesn't catch biotoxins and you can be poisoned. By joining this meetup you accept this risk. This risk is also covered by the signup form which you will need to sign.

Harvest Times
Low tide is around 6am on 6/7 and 6:30am on 6/8 so unfortunately we will need to wake up early. If you don't feel like getting up those mornings you can sleep in as long as you're not driving because we need drivers. Otherwise you'll need to agree to lend your car out to one of the people in the group who can drive. This is actually a blessing on Sunday because we will finish harvesting and cooking and eating before we checkout at 1pm.

Be sure to read the regulations
