South Zeal – Hound Tor - Throwleigh Dartmoor Walk

Starting from the car park follow the road towards South Zeal, then turn onto a public footpath to climb a steep hill onto open moorland with far reaching views. Follow the path past ancient stone rows, through a peat bog and past a stone circle overlooking Hound Tor. Follow the path down off the moor onto roads and public bridleway to Gidleigh/Gidleigh Mill. Continue walking on roads and public footpaths through fields then turning onto the Dartmoor Way, cutting through Throwleigh Churchyard following a public footpath and road back towards the carpark. The walk will include a stop for lunch.

Open moorland, public footpaths, roads. Footpaths can be muddy in wet weather and some are uneven. On the open moorland there is a peat bog to cross. Ascents and descents, with a few short steep ascents, with one long steep ascent onto the moor. There are a few stiles.

Parking: free off road carpark near South Zeal

Please wear weather/ ground conditions appropriate clothing/ footwear and bring a packed lunch, drinks and snacks.
