A truly unforgettable weekend of walking and sightseeing in this fantastic Yorkshire coastal location !

The town provided the inspiration for Bram Stoker's classic novel Dracula and iconic Whitby Abbey - a magnificent vision - is perched on a cliff top reached by walking up 199 steps which we shall be doing on the first day.

Itinerary:

Saturday afternoon

Meet at train station - 4.45pm for 5pm for 4 to 5 mile walk along the beach to Sandsend where we shall stop for a drink at the Hart Inn and then walk back

Morning

Meet by train station -
9.45am for 10am
Starting with 199 step climb to Whitby Abbey
Beautiful 7 mile coastal walk to delightful and celebrated Robin Hood's Bay

Lunch in Robin Hood's Bay

Bus back to Whitby

Afternoon

Meet bus station 9.45am
X4 coastal bus at 10.04am

Delightful 9 mile hilly coastal walk between lovely towns of Saltburn and Staithes

X4 bus back to Whitby

Tuesday

Meet by train station -
9am for 9.15am

4 mile River Esk walk to Sleights

Walk north of the river to Ruswarp then south of the river into Sleights

Train back 11.40am
or bus at 11.49am

You can of course arrive a day or two early or stay on beyond Tuesday.

All local travel will be by bus and train.

Please book 3 nights at a hotel ( Saturday to Tuesday ) of your choosing in Whitby and then leave a comment on the event page with the name of your accommodation.

Return to Scarborough from London Kings Cross :

Saturday 10am to 12.59pm

Tuesday 4.54pm to 7.49pm

We shall travel between Scarborough and Whitby by coastal bus which takes around one hour

You should have appropriate and adequate insurance for this type of activity and be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour.

Meetup fee £40 ( season ticket holders : £30 ) payable by bank transfer, details supplied by private message.

Walking and hiking in the Great Outdoors presents certain low level risks and by rsvping to this trip you are in agreement to undertake such risks.
