Hello everyone!
We are thrilled to announce our first event as the Vienna AI Engineering Meetup group on Tuesday, April 29th! Just like in the past, we’ll be hosted by Greentube at their HQ on Wiedner Hauptstraße.
We've always been primarily interested in the practical aspects of technology (as opposed to the academic ones), and we intend to continue following this approach. Accordingly, we have two very practical talks lined up.
The first is about OMV's Self-Service GenAI Platform, focusing on the architectural and implementation lessons learned during its development.
The second is about what is arguably the most hyped component in the current AI Engineering stack: the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Come join us as we explore the future of AI Engineering together!

Here are the detailed abstracts:
Building a Self-Service GenAI Platform within a Large Enterprise (Jörg Schoba, Ivo Stankov)
In this talk, we will cover the journey that led to our platform approach for scaling AI development in a large enterprise such as OMV, emphasizing maintainability and component reuse. In addition to delving into the architectural and specific implementation details of our OMV AI Hub, we will demonstrate the productive web portal, which provides end users with safe GenAI products and AI engineers with reusable, governed modules and comprehensive documentation. We will discuss the benefits of stable reference architectures and the significance of a self-service platform, as well as the real-world challenges that come along the way.
About the speakers:
- Jörg studied MSc computer science at TU Wien and began his career as a technical consultant in the Microsoft Partner Network. At OMV, he started as a platform manager for the Hybrid Integration Platform. He was soon appointed Domain Architect for Artificial Intelligence at OMV Group IT and is now responsible for the technical design of reference architectures and the self-service AI platform - the AI Hub.
- Ivo began his career as a university research associate. He then transitioned to hands-on API Management architecture and implementation as a consultant and developer. At OMV AG, he oversaw the creation of its API platform program. Currently, as the Head of Hybrid Integration, Platforms, and Design, he leads several teams of cloud architects, developers, and engineers in delivering OMV IT's platform engineering initiatives, including the AI Hub.
A practical intro to MCP, the Model Context Protocol (Bogdan Pirvu)
In the evolving landscape of AI applications, integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) with external data sources and tools presents significant challenges. The Model Context Protocol (MCP) has emerged as a standardized solution to this problem, offering a universal method for connecting AI systems with the context they require.
In this talk, we will begin with a brief introduction to MCP, followed by an in-depth exploration of its architecture, key components, and various implementation strategies. Attendees will gain insights into how MCP facilitates seamless interactions between AI assistants and external tools, thereby enhancing functionality and user experience.
About the speaker:
- Bogdan, one of the organizers of this meetup, serves as the Head of Data & Analytics at Novomatic AG. He has an academic background in Theoretical Physics and a strong foundation in Software Engineering. Currently focused on Enterprise Data Platforms and Reliable AI. Lecturer and Entrepreneur.
