Give your old denim new life in this creative and sustainable upcycling workshop! Bring a pair of jeans, a denim jacket, or shorts you’d like to transform with colorful patchwork. We'll provide fabric scraps, vibrant topstitching thread, denim needles, and Wonder Under to help you create a one-of-a-kind look.
Don't have denim to bring? We'll have a few extra pieces on hand just in case.
Led by one of our talented student teachers Mariana, this class is perfect for anyone who loves to sew, create, and give old clothes a second chance.

In this workshop you will:

• Learn techniques for upcycling denim using patchwork
• Design and personalize your own jeans, jacket, or shorts
• Use colorful topstitching, fabric scraps, and Wonder Under to bring your vision to life
• Gain hands-on experience with sewing tools like denim needles and stabilizers
• Leave with a unique, wearable creation and inspiration to keep upcycling!

About the Instructor:
Meet Mariana! Originally from sunny California, Mariana moved to NYC to pursue her passion for fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She holds degrees in Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Design, and is currently working toward her bachelor’s in Technical Design. Taught to hand sew by her grandmother at just five years old, Mariana quickly fell in love with fashion and all it encompasses. She especially enjoys upcycling denim—not only for its eco-friendly benefits, but for the endless opportunities it offers to get creative and express individuality.

Join us for our ongoing adult sewing classes and learn the skills you need to become a maker today! Beginners and returning students are always welcome at The Fashion Class where we make sewing and design easy and fun for everyone.

Class will go over things like sewing machine basics: threading, bobbins, and using a sewing machine. You'll then make a small project, options are:

• Zippered Make-up/Pencil Pouch
• Infinity Scarf
• Faux Leather Tote Bag

You'll leave class with the knowledge and confidence to sew at home or join us again to continue your creative journey.

We provide all of the supplies, all you have to do is bring your fabulous self (and BYOB should you so decide). Our class sizes are small (up to 8 students) so that each person has the space and attention they need to design, create, and finish their project!

In this workshop, you’ll:

• Learn the basics of color theory: hue, value, and intensity
• Explore complementary colors and why they work (with professional drapes)
• Discover the seasonal color system and how to tell if you’re warm or cool-toned
• Take part in hands-on worksheets to determine your season
• Create a personal color vision board using swatches and magazine clippings
• Leave with the knowledge of your personal color palette and seasonal type

No prior experience needed—just bring your curiosity and get ready to say “aha!” to your most flattering colors.
Meet Your Instructor: Irina
Irina is a celebrity stylist with over a decade of experience in fashion and image consulting. With certifications from MODART and The Fashion Stylist Institute, she has styled high-profile clients for the Met Gala, editorial shoots, and red carpet events around the world.
With a background in wardrobe planning, trend forecasting, and sustainable fashion, Irina brings a sharp eye and an approachable teaching style to every class. Her expert guidance will help you uncover your most flattering colors with confidence and creativity.

Take a creative break in the middle of your day and leave with a custom statement piece! In this hands-on workshop, you'll design and burn your very own wide brim fedora hat with a boho-glam twist.
We'll guide you through the art of hat burning—using heat tools to etch patterns, words, and designs into your hat—then glam it up with ribbons, feathers, chains, charms, and more. Choose from a variety of embellishments to suit your style, whether you're going full desert cowgirl or subtle western chic.
Not into wearing hats? No problem—your creation also makes a stunning piece of entryway or wall décor.
No experience necessary—all materials (including the hat!) are provided.

Kerri Quigley is the founder of The Fashion Class in NYC and a lifelong lover of creativity, style, and hands-on making. With a degree from Parsons School of Design and over a decade of experience teaching sewing and design to all ages, Kerri brings a playful yet polished approach to every project. She's passionate about helping others tap into their creativity—especially during a well-deserved midday break!
