Welcome to Toastmasters 4 Writers!
Toastmasters 4 Writers is a specialty Toastmasters club for everyone who loves storytelling and writing in any genre. You don't need to be published or professional writer to enjoy our Toastmasters 4 Writers club.
For 19 years, Toastmasters 4 Writers has been providing a safe and welcoming place for people to experience profound growth as communicators and leaders. We are here to cheer on all our members as they overcome their fear of speaking in front of groups, and excel as presenters.
We are meeting on Zoom the first Saturday, and holding hybrid meetings on the third Saturday with both "Zoomies" and "Roomies."
Our meetings start at 10 AM sharp, and end approximately at noon.
Here is the basic structure of our meetings:
- INTRODUCTION: The President, Toastmaster and supporting members kick off the meeting.
- SPEECHES: One to three speeches are presented by members from a variety of experience levels.
- TABLE TOPICS: Guests and members are invited to give 1-2 minute impromptu speeches or share a story.
- EVALUATIONS: Select members offer constructive feedback on the speeches presented.
Toastmaster's message for this meeting:
Hi Toastmasters 4 Writers Members and Guests!
On a sunny day in the spring of 2001, I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance after suffering an allergic reaction to penicillin. My doctor had prescribed the antibiotic for a rash, and I passed out.
When I woke up in a hospital bed and learned what happened, I low-key panicked. Not because I was worried about my health, but because I didn’t want to miss my favorite show!
You see, its season finale was scheduled to air that night, and the fans had been primed for something big. Fortunately, I made it home in time to experience a clffhanger that I still think about almost 25 years later. Let’s just say that it consisted of the titular character jumping to her death.
Nothing exhilarates me more about watching TV and films than an exciting, well-earned cliffhanger. For a moment, you're gripped by so many emotions: there’s anticipation, as you realize something pivotal is about to happen; then the thrill of watching the payoff; but then, outrage as you realize you’re going to have to wait to find out what happens next! (Hopefully only for a few days, if you’re lucky!)
Join us at our next Toastmasters 4 Writers Zoom-only meeting on May 3rd as we delve into some intense cliffhangers, including the one from 2001 that left such an impression on me.
