The Hand-made Book: Printing and Binding Letterpress

Ever wanted to make your own book? Where do you start? What equipment do you need? Is it even possible?
This workshop shows to how to start with text and design, through printing to binding the final product. You'll see all this done in one weekend and take home a finished book.
The printing section will cover hand type, Monotype, Linotype, plates and digital. Both hand and machine printing will take place on a number of different presses in the WCBA.
Bindings will range from stapled through hand-stitched booklet to hard-case with cover options. Perfect binding (glue machine) will also be demonstrated.
Suggestions for books or booklets to be printed are welcome.
This workshop is led by:
Graham Judd of Inkiana Press, New Zealand's foremost letterpress educator, inkianapress.co.nz
Graham will be joined by an experienced bookbinder with input also from other professionals.
Venue: WCBA, Wellington Centre for Book Arts, Woolstore Building, 262 Thorndon Quay, Wellington.
Time: 9.30am-4.00pm Sat. 17th and Sun. 18th May, 2025.
Cost: $290 (less 10% for members). Places are limited and can only be confirmed by payment.
