What we’re about
Welcome book nerds and those who want more community in their love for reading and new ideas!
Each year we read through the New York Times Best Books of a previous calendar year. There are five fiction and five non-fiction books on the list, and we meet monthly to discuss the merits, weaknesses, messages, and relevance of each of the texts. We skip August and December.
Here’s a rough schedule for 2023:
January: A Children’s Bible by Lydia Millett
February: Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family by Robert Kolker
March: Deacon King Kong by James McBride
April: A Promised Land by Barack Obama
May: Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell
June: Shakespeare in a Divided America by James Shapiro
July: Homeland Elegies by Ayad Akhtar
August: NO MEET UP
September: Uncanny Valley: A Memoir by Anna Wiener
October: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett
November: War: How Conflict Shaped Us by Margaret MacMillan
December: NO MEET UP
Meet ups are in-person.
If you find that you are unable to attend or you haven’t finished the book, please RSVP ‘no’ so that we know how many people to expect. Thank you, and happy reading!
