The London Wine, Dining and Travel Meetup

Of all the wine areas of France, the Rhône is arguably the most exciting right now. The winemakers are talented but down-to-earth; the region has embraced sustainable viticulture; and the wines still offer extraordinary value for money.

This 'Rhone Roots' event has been organised by Matt Walls, who has written extensively on the wines of the Rhône and has established himself as a leading voice on the region. With all the Crus of the Northern and Southern Rhône present, it promises to provide a satisfyingly complete picture of this extensive region. There will be 40 top winemakers to talk to, all pouring their wines – and a further 8 producers from around the world that specialise in Rhône varieties. You can even test your tastebuds on a blind-tasting table.

I will be there for the start 5.30 to welcome you and to introduce you to other members of the group. At 6.30 I will do a guided wine walk limited to 4 people and priority will be given to nay new members. Note that this is a 'walk-round' tasting and you can turn up at any time, but don't delay if you want to taste as many wines as possible!

Tickets are normally £50 but our group has been offered a 20% discount reducing the price to £40, and I have reserved 8 tickets.

The 2015 vintage was an excellent year in many different wine regions. The weather gods smiled and fabulous quality grapes were ready for picking. How will this vintage taste after 10 years of maturity?

About half of the wines in this tasting will be from France, but Spain, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa will also feature. There will be 2 bottles of a welcome white wine, and then 2 more whites, 5 reds and a luscious dessert wine to finish. See the photo for some of the wines we will be tasting.

Numbers will be limited to 12 people seated round one table, so almost a bottle of fine wine per person. During the tasting a selection of fine cheeses, pates, and other food will be served.

Macellaio is an Italian restaurant famous for its fine steak. In fact, Macellaio means "butcher". The steak they serve is exclusively from the Fassona beef breed, which is native to the mountain valleys in the north of Genoa. For the BYO for our table of 8 people I will take a 6 bottles of wine with an average retail value of £20 per bottle - 1 bottle of sparkling wine, 2 white wines, 2 red wines and a dessert wine. With typical restaurant mark-ups these wines would cost around £60 on their wine list, so this is a great opportunity to enjoy delicious food and drink fine wines without paying restaurant prices (for the wine!).

The pre-pay for this event is £53 which covers:-
- the 6 bottles of wine I will take for the BYO
- £30 credit towards your food bill
- meetup/paypal fees
On the day you will pay the balance of your food bill and any additional drinks you order.

The wine which I will take is an integral of this event so please do NOT ask if you can attend if you are not happy to share in all the bottles of wine.
