Welcome to the 11th season of Carson Beach volleyball coached practices!
Level - Weekly, recurring clinic for experienced intermediates who can serve, pass, set, and hit on the beach. If you are looking for a clinic to build basic skills on the beach, please see Tue clinic.
Do you want to improve your beach doubles game? Transition your indoor skills to the beach? Learn beach specific offense, defense, and often arbitrary sand rules? Then join us every Tue!
6-7pm – Improve your serving, passing, setting, and hitting in competitive, game like drills. Review current defense and blocking calls, offensive systems (standard, option on 2, spread, jump sets, etc.)
and wind strategies. Record video of yourself and analyze.7 to 8 – Play beach/sand doubles on a men's and a women's height net.
ATTENDEES and RSVPs - We are trying to build a group of people who attend regularly. The coaching is organized to build on previous weeks, so it is preferable to have some regular players. When confirming RSVPs, I will give preference to previously attendees. You can register 2 weeks in advance.
BRING - a phone/device/tripod to record yourself at practice, water, sunglasses, bug spray and a beach chair.
Bring a Bluetooth speaker if you have one.
We use Spaulding / Mikasa King of the Beach ball (classic ball) and Wilson AVP ball, (popular at Carson and local tournaments). Please bring extras if you have them.BE ON TIME - Warm ups start at 6 and clinic at 6:15. If you at not on the beach by 6, you may have to skip the clinic and join us for open play.
COST - one-time seasonal fee ($50) or daily rate ($5). Venmo @BestYet23. You can upgrade from one-time to seasonal during your first 5 games - the seasonal payment will be pro-rated accordingly. Fees are applied to equipment and Meetup costs.
VIDEO REVIEW - Option to record a drill and/or games at every practice. Bring phone and tripod. After practice, we can discuss your goals, and how your skills and tactics are achieving them.
CANCEL EARLY - If you cannot attend, please cancel 48 hours in advance as I need time to make sure we have have 2 well matched nets of players. If you cancel within this window, you will be less likely to get invited in the future.
RAIN CANCELLATION - I hate to cancel for rain. If there is hour + of clear weather, I will run practice. See you on the sand!
HELP WITH THE CLINICS - I am always looking for help with clinics. If you want to help organize, demonstrate, review video, or anything else, please let me know!
HOW TO FIND US - Carson Beach 100 William J Day Blvd · Boston, MA Find the nets - blue & yellow. Find me - light blue CO snowflake hat. There are 2 free parking lots (one on each side of beach house). We are in front of the southern lot on right side of brick bath house as you look at ocean.
PARKING/PUBLIC TRANS - There are 2 free parking lots (one on each side of beach house). I get there 45 minutes early and wait for a spot. Some people park on Columbia Road and walk across to Carson. Some people park at Boston Teachers Union (not allowed but to my knowledge don't ticket) or nearby Passport Parking App spots. Accessible via MBTA Red line JFK stop.
Traffic is terrible and getting worse. Parking is the same. Add in a lot of extra time to make sure you arrive on time. Good luck and look forward to meeting you!
