Come learn about wild edible and medicinal foods.This hike is led by the Richardson Foraging Meetup Group, The leader of that group will be sharing her considerable knowledge as we hike and visit so join us and discover the bounty of free food that is all around us.
We will meet at the parking lot for the Bob Woodruff Park at 2601 San Gabriel Drive. This is a small park/lake located within the Oak Point Nature Reserve in Plano.

We will be traipsing up the East Trinity River for a few miles. There is a boat launch platform set up by the city right there close to an open area of the road, not far from the Hebron Pkwy exit off of I-35 in Lewisville. At the intersection of Hebron and I-35 turn right (East). Follow 1-2 miles, this area becomes pretty rural looking quickly. Take the right turn o to the dirt road turn-off (sign should say Boat Launch). This goes to the paved parking area.

The boat launch is designed so that you can lower into the water from inside your kayak. The flow of the river is low enough that we can paddle upstream or downstream. We will probably go upstream. There are some gravel banks in places that we can rest and explore if you want. We will kayak for a couple hours and then turn around and paddle back to the boat launch again.

I have two single and two tandem (2-person) kayaks. I have these extra kayaks to share with as many as I can. You are very welcome to join us if you have your own kayak OR if you need to borrow one of mine. Please let me know if you need to use one of mine. It would also help if you let me know what your kayaking experience is so I know if you need to paddle with someone else or alone

It's been way too long since we've been to Beaver's Bend State Park. This is one of the beautiful jewels of the South. It is a major fishery for trout fishing. Trout are a coldwater fish and start dying when the water temp gets above 50°. This is one of the few places where they can live year-round for several miles from the spillway so they develop natural instincts in a couple months after being released and are just like natural-born fish soon after being released.

I will be bringing about 5 kayaks for people to use also (2 single and 2-3 tandem). Hopefully others will bring theirs too. You will be responsible for arranging your own shuttle (either with other members or through a private outfitter - private costs money). Don't assume that I will be your shuttle . There are tons of hiking trails, lots of swimming, and beautiful mesmerizing campfires to enjoy. I am going over to check out things there next week. I will have info about the ZipLine and mountain biking opportunities afterwards if anyone is interested.

This will be a joint get-a-way between NTC&D and NTO. Both are very friendly and helpful groups. If you need something, just ask about it in the comment section... anything from borrowing a kayak to finding a tent. Only borrow things if you know how to take care of them though and return them exactly as they were before borrowing (or better). I have had things loaned that came back to me trashed. It isn't very tempting to loan again after that. Well-behaved dogs are welcome if they stay on a leash (limit 2/site). Kids are welcome if they are well-behaved also.

This will be your favorite weekend for a long time, most likely. Be sure to get your reservations in within a week or 1 1/2 weeks max. I believe this is just before peak season rates starts but it is going to fill quickly. For some reason it can't find this park with the MeetUp software.
