What we’re about
The Temple of Avalon offers classes, community and social events to empower and support anyone wanting to learn more about Paganism, Witchcraft, and Avalon spiritual practices. Instead of being exclusive, closed and formal in its approach as other organizations have sometimes chosen to be, TOA chooses to be inclusive, open, fairly informal, and very supportive and encouraging to Seekers of all levels. We want to be a place where anyone can feel they are welcome and encouraged to participate, be loved, and find support. Our intention is always to make a place that is sacred, that is open to all with love in their hearts. Love is the only requirement. Whatever kind of Witch you identify as: white, black, green, gray, baby, adult, old crone, whatever. If you have love in your heart, you are welcome! We have no room for destroyers, doubters, and haters. Perfect love and perfect trust welcome here.
Avalon is the magical spirit realm, the place where we go to connect spiritually to what’s important. Whatever your background, however you define it, the place and the Path to it is up to you, and none shall define it for you. Be well. Be sovereign. OnlineThe Winter Solstice, known as Yule, is the longest night / shortest day of the year. Yule is a traditional holiday holding roots in various northern European traditions. When the days grew colder and the nights grew longer, people of ancient times would light candles and gather round fires to lure back the sun. They would bring out their stores of food and enjoy feasting and festivities. The Celts thought the Sun stood still for 12 days during the darkest time of the year, and they would light logs to keep away evil and welcome in good fortune—now called the Yule log. Evergreens were cut and brought indoors to symbolize life, rebirth and renewal. They were thought to have power over death because their green never faded, and they were used to defeat winter demons and hold back death and destruction. Because of their strength and tenacity, they were also believed to encourage the Sun’s return.
Fire has been a large part of Winter Solstice celebrations for centuries. The burning of the Yule log, lighting fires and burning candles are all popular ways to welcome back the light and warmth of the Sun. The Winter Solstice marks the entry of the Sun into serious Capricorn as it leaves jovial Sagittarius. This marks the start of astrological winter - a wonderful time for us all to feel the slowness of nature and come to our own standstill, to assess our high points of the year and consider what light we might welcome in the new year.
Please have a white candle and a drink (coffee, tea, cider, juice—whatever feels celebratory and appropriate for you). We'll cast a circle, call the God and Goddess, and toast our ancestors, our Spirit Guides, and ourselves. We'll reflect on our journeys, as individuals and as a group, and dream a little about what next year might bring, what adventures we might embark upon, what shadows we might chase. This is a safe place to warm your soul. Blessed Be ❤️
