As someone who has been writing almost since she could read, and submitting nearly as long, Gaie has seen a great many changes both in the publishing world and in her own conception of what being a writer means for her. Gaie hopes that sharing some of her thoughts and experiences will be useful, or at the very least interesting, to other writers.

Gaie Sebold lives in South London with her husband, writer David Gullen, a small cat and several large ferns.
Her debut novel introduced brothel owner and former avatar of sex and war, Babylon Steel (Solaris, 2012), and was reissued in 2022 as Bad Gods. The sequel, Dangerous Gifts, came out in 2013. Steampunk fantasy Shanghai Sparrow came out in 2014 and the sequel, Sparrow Falling in 2016. She has also published a number of short stories and a book of poetry (Urban Fox, Tall Lighthouse Press). She has signed a contract for a fifth novel, which is currently in edits. Her short fiction has been nominated for a British Fantasy Society award.
Gaie has worked as a cleaner, secretary, till-wrangler, stage-tour-manager, editor, and charity administrator.
