What we’re about

Great movies, in great theaters, with great people. That’s the mission. A club filled with film-lovers that meets every week to watch a movie in theaters! We’ll hang out before/after each showing to talk about movies, life, and just get to know each other. I schedule a good mixture of new and old releases, and try to balance genres. We also schedule events outside the theater like our popular ‘Outdoor Movie Nights’ at Tower Grove Park! This is a great way to meet new people and socialize!

The weather is turning and what better way to enjoy it than with one of our popular Outdoor Movie Nights! We’ll hang out with some food and drinks, get to know each other, and play some yard games. Then, once it gets dark, I’ll fire up the projector for a fun double feature!

There will be a $10 dollar fee to cover the pavilion rental that can be paid via Venmo to @blakeofstedal, or in cash when you arrive.

There are a few large BBQ pits that I’ll have going for burgers/brats (and/or warmth depending on the weather) and I’ll bring fresh movie theater popcorn for everyone! The drinks are BYOB. Feel free to bring food, drinks or games for the group if you’d like, but no pressure! You can bring camp chairs if you want, but there will be plenty of picnic table space.

Also, once we shut down at 10pm, we'll walk to a local dive bar for an afterparty. I hope to see you all there!

Marvel has three big movies coming out this year and I'm hoping it won't be a "fool me three times" situation. The final trailer for this has given me a bit of hope, but if I'm being honest, I'm mostly scheduling it because other people in the group are interested and it's important to the health of movie theaters. Hope I'm wrong, though! We'll meet 1 hour before the 7pm showing in the lounge area to hang out with a drink and talk movies! Then afterwards, we'll head over to a local dive bar to hang out some more!

2025 is the year where I fill in all my Kubrick blind spots, and Barry Lyndon is up next. What a treat to see it in 35mm!

In an effort to expose us all to the majesty of real film, I'll be scheduling a monthly 35mm showing at the Hi Pointe. I love the Hi Pointe, and with STL's other small, independent theaters dropping like flies (*cough*cough* The Tivoli is a church to Cinema, not God), they need our support now more than ever.

Members of our STL Film Club Patreon (Become a member) get discounted tickets for our 35mm showings at Hi Pointe (as well as other benefits)!

We'll meet at one of my favorite little bars in STL, Fox and Hounds Tavern in The Cheshire, 75 minutes before the 7:00pm showing to hang out with a cocktail, and then head over to the theatre around 6:45. After the movie, we'll circle up in the lobby quickly to hear everyone's thoughts. Hope to see you all there!
