We can't wait to share this night of baseball shenanigans with you!
Here are the OFFICIAL rules of the 2025 Hootenanny! Unless otherwise stated, the Hootenanny will follow Major League Baseball rules.
- Obscenely large bases. MLB expanded the bases last year... we're taking it a step further.
- To make use of the larger bases, as many players that can fit can occupy a base. Don't want to run to second base on a ground ball? Don't worry about it. Stay at first.
- Since runners don't have to advance on a ball in play, the only force out is at 1st base.
- Runners do not have to stay in order. If you are on the basepaths and your spot in the lineup comes up, a courtesy runner may be used.
- Runners may steal first on a passed ball.
- The brown dirt is the designated base path area. Players may run in any space on the "dirt" to get from base to base. If they touch the "grass", it is an out, with the exception of running from home to first and from third to home, which will follow traditional base path rules.
- No foul balls. If the bat touches the ball, the ball is live. The only time a ball is foul is if it goes into the stands on the fly. Backstop netting is in play.
- Batter is awarded 3rd base on a walk.
- Games are 8 innings or 2 hours and 20 minutes, whichever comes first. A 15 minute halftime will occur at the end of the 4th or after 1 hour and 10 minutes, whichever comes first.
- If a fan catches a foul ball on the fly, he must rock/paper/scissors the batter and winner determines the outcome of the at bat.
- Golden at bat. Once per game, each team may choose an at bat as their golden at bat. During that at bat, everything doubles, runs, bases and even OUTS. If the golden ball outs result in more than 3 outs in the inning, the extra out carries over to the next inning.
- NO BUNTING! Bunting is stupid. Any bunt is an automatic out.
- Overtime is 3 on 3. 3 fielders and 3 batters hitting off of a Tee. The ball must leave the infield or it's an out. Each base is worth one point and the team with the most points at the end of the inning wins.
