Hi Bike Buds! 🚴
This Sunday #FollowTheCalves 🦵🏻 are going for a road ride through small towns on country roads just north of Lisbon.
There are two route options of either 83km & 1,280m climbing or 59km & 1,010m climbing
83km route:

- Train from Oriente station to Azambuja station 9:52 - 10:23. You can also take the same train from Santa Apolonia at 9:42
- Ride 59km to lunch stop in Malveira
- Either continue on from Malveira for the full 83km ride or take the train from Malveira back to Lisbon
- Finish 83km ride at Algueirão–Mem Martins
Return Train Options:
- Return trains from Malveira on the 59km ride are more limited. There are two options at either 14:37 or 17:36
- Return trains from Algueirão–Mem Martins are every 20-30 mins
Buying train tickets
- Please arrive early at the station to buy your ticket
- Tickets are ~€3 each way
- All train options are either regional or urban and do not require a ticket with a reserved bike spot (like the IC trains require)
Bike hire
- We ride road and gravel bikes
- You can rent from a few places in Lisbon. We recommend Lisbon Bike Rentals as they have really good quality bikes and are opposite Cais Do Sodre station.
- You can also try Biclas for some cheaper options.
What to bring
- Breathable clothes (we wear lycra, but that's not obligatory, just handy for pockets so you don't need to bring a bag)
- Snacks (nuts, protein balls, glucose etc. are small but helpful for hills).
- Water - don't come without at least one full water bottle! We recommend 2.
- Helmet - You won't be able to ride without a helmet!!
- Sun screen - cycling tans / burns are not sexy.
- An appetite for some ice cream, an adventure and some fun!
FAQs:
- Do you have WhatsApp group? Yes, you can join the cycling group here (password: sports22)
- Do you require any special skills? Yes, you need to be able to cycle the specified distance, including hills, at a medium speed, with breaks.
- What happens if I get a puncture? Bring your own spare inner tube and a multitool. Failing that, taxi to the nearest bike shop or train station is a backup option.
