What we’re about
How many times have you seen hiking clubs where if you're not a super fast uber- hiker they don't want you going on any harder hikes or scrambles. They believe that if you are slower you should only stick to the easier stuff. Boring!! This is a club for those of us who still wish to do all styles of hiking from easy walks to scrambles. We just don't feel the need to make a "mad dash" for a summit or to finish a trail in record time. Hiking and being in the outdoors is meant to be an enjoyable activity for all of us. Slow and Steady is about hiking at a consistent, manageable pace -- which may vary from slow to moderate depending on the organizer -- and finishing the hike or scrambling to a summit together. If this is more your style and wish to meet like minded hikers please consider joining our club. We will be doing all kinds of summer and winter activities such as day hikes, scrambles, backpacking trips, XC skiing, snowshoe trips, downhill ski trips and any other outdoor related activity. Remember slow and steady wins the race. Lets all enjoy the great outdoors together. Just in a more relaxed pace.

- Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park SLOW STROLLNeeds location
Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is a day-use area, located west of Calgary, near Cochrane. The park protects 3,000 acres of fescue grasslands and features beautiful views of the Bow River valley to the south, and the Rocky Mountains to the west. The park has about 30 km of trails, which can be enjoyed by either hiking or cycling, and offers abundant opportunities for enjoying nature.
This trip is a SLOW STROLL not a fast walk or hike. The main aim of the trip is just to get some fresh air and enjoy nature. This trip is suitable for beginners or intermediate hikers who enjoy a SLOW PACE. I will be taking my dog, Sophie, on this walk, and she will be leashed at all times. If you don't like dogs, please don't sign up for this hike.
Weather: This trip is weather dependent. If the forecast is for pouring rain, the hike will be cancelled. Right now, the forecast for Saturday the 26th is cloudy, with a low of minus one in the early morning, and a high of plus thirteen in the afternoon. Please check the website the night before the hike to make sure it has not been cancelled.
Trail description: This will be a very relaxed event, and we will hike along whatever trails we like, for about five to ten kilometers. There is a bit of elevation loss and gain because the trails descend toward the valley bottom. Please see the links below for a description of Glenbow Ranch and the trails there.

Trans Canada Trail | Trail Profile: Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park
2018_Glenbow_Ranch_Web_English.pdfSuggested gear: Comfortable hiking boots. Layers of clothing such as a wind or water-resistant jacket; sun hat; water, snacks.
Trailhead: From Calgary, head west on the 1a towards Cochrane. About 2 km east of Cochrane, you will see a sign for Glenbow Ranch. Turn left (south) on Glenbow Road and follow it to the parking lot. Meet at the parking lot at 1:00 pm. Look for a black Dodge Grand Caravan. Short lady with large Malamute dog on leash.
Carpooling: Carpooling will not be arranged for this trip as I don't live in Calgary. But you can use the comments section to arrange carpools if you like. Because this is a short drive from Calgary, you can decide yourself what you would like to charge for driving. ($5 or $10?)
Waiver: You will be asked to sign a waiver at the parking lot, and by doing so, you agree to the Slow and Steady rules of conduct.
