The Ocean Group of the Sierra Club is member of the New Jersey Chapter of the nationwide Sierra Club and is a diverse group of individuals who are devoted to protection of environmentally sensitive areas on a local, regional, and global scale, and to supporting political initiatives for sound environmental policy. We hold regular, open to the public, meetings on environmental issues as well as frequent outings to many of our most beautiful outdoor locations.

Registration required: www.sierraclub.org/new-jersey/ocean-county 10 a.m., 3 miles, easy pace. Join us for our first NJ Sierra Club hike at Ocean County Park. This magnificent facility in Lakewood has a rich and fascinating history. Ocean County Park was originally part of Financier John D. Rockefeller's vacation estate. His estate donated the property of 323 acres to Ocean County in 1940. Leashed dogs are welcome. Bring binoculars, water, snacks and lunch. There are picnic tables. Rain cancels. Registration required www.sierraclub.org/new-jersey/ocean-county 10 a.m., 2-3 miles, easy pace, flat even trail around the lake. There are 227 acres of towering oaks and pines surrounding the gorgeous trout-stocked lake, the focal point of the park. Bring binoculars, water, snacks and lunch. Leashed dogs are welcome. There are picnic tables. Rain cancels. Address: 660 Ocean Ave. (Rt 88) and 300 New Hampshire Ave., Lakewood. There are facilities. Look for the Sierra Club banner.
