Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Join us for 3hrs of writing from the comfort of home.
Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress.

Before your event, please take a few minutes to make sure your video chat setup is working. Once you log in to the meeting, our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.
Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.
What do I need?
A computer with working camera and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.
Other important details
Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.
If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom by reviewing the below tutorial:

ZOOM PASSCODE: 339185Enjoy writing in a virtual community! We'll do introductions, then get 90 minutes of writing done—any writing you like.
Write from anywhere! Join us for intros and then write silently for 90 minutes. If you need to leave early, or if you're into the flow and want to keep going when the timer rings, that's fine, feel free to post in the chat how it went for you before heading out.
Joining late? -- After Introductions, we're in our silent writing time. A waiting room may be open for security. Please watch for a Chat message in the waiting room to help us identify you. When admitted, we ask you to post a brief Intro in the Chat, with where you're calling from and what you'll be working on today.
