The Six Edges Hike

Details

Route: Baslow Edge, Froggatt Edge, Curbar Edge, Gardoms Edge, Birchen Edge, White Edge.

A familiar hike to Sheffield Mountaineers but this time with two added edges

Meet at: Curbar Gap car park, Clodhall Lane, just East of Curbar, postcode S32 3YR, OS map reference SK261747. As an environmentally conscious group, we actively encourage car sharing. Further details of car sharing arrangements from Sheffield and elsewhere will appear in the comments section nearer the time.

This exciting circular hike will give us the chance to explore the entire length of no fewer than six of the famous Peak District gritstone edges, with ample opportunity to play about on the rock along the way. There will also be plenty of dramatic positions, outstanding views and rolling countryside to enjoy.

The full day will include a hike along the smooth cliff faces of Baslow Edge. Followed by visits to the famous Eagle Stone and Wellington Monument then a jaunt down the bridleway, over the road to Gardoms Edge. Here there's a chance to see a 4000-year-old sundial, rare rock art and more ancient history than you can shake a walking pole at. From here It's up to Birchen Edge to see Nelsons monument

Retracing our steps slightly we then stride out over moorland, passing along White Edge to Totley Moss followed by an about-turn on to the spectacular Froggatt Edge with the possibility of a rather intrepid stream scramble along the way. This leads eventually to the equally impressive Curbar Edge, which we will follow all the way back to the car park.
