What we’re about
Hello! This group is intended for those near the middle of the political spectrum. I imagine we will have our fair share of disagreements among ourselves, but we don't approach issues from either extreme.
It seems like a growing challenge to find people who neither die-hard Trump supporters nor fully on the woke-train. Of course we'll have our own opinions, but if you genuinely see both sides of many issues then this is likely the group for you. Maybe you lean left but you're discouraged by the most extreme calls, e.g. "Eat the rich!" Or maybe you lean right but you're disillusioned with the Republican party over its disregard for the sanctity of free and fair elections or the peaceful transfer of power.
There are other independently-minded political groups on meetup but I find they cater to more extreme politics rather than less. Progressive or Libertarian groups reject two-party politics but they seem focused on their specific agenda rather than moderation or unity. This is a group for unity.
My hope is we will share a few common values about traditionally American principles, like freedom, equality before the law, and opportunity. But hey, maybe you consider yourself a moderate and want to discuss even those basic principles. The most important thing is we agree that when we disagree, we do it respectfully.
I imagine many events will be politics or discussion based, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way. We could also organize group activities just to socialize - sometimes just hanging out with a group in these hyper-partisan times raises my blood pressure and it would be a relief to find a community of friends I know are not extreme.
