PLEASE NOTE THAT VERY FEW MEMBERS OF THIS GROUP DO MEETUP THEREFORE THERE WILL BE FEW PEOPLE LISTED HERE

… a walk known in this house as ‘Two edges and a stone circle’.

From the car park, we’ll follow quiet lanes for a while before turning off onto the path that takes us up to Bamford Edge. We’ll walk the length of the edge, (hopefully) enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, before dipping briefly down into the valley, hopping over the stream, and heading back up to the Seven Stones of Hordron, an early Bronze Age stone circle.
We’ll head back down towards - and then cross - the A57, continuing through typical Peak District upland farmland before crossing back over the road and heading up onto Stanage Edge, which we’ll follow back to our starting point.

We will take one of two possible descents from the edge: the one we choose will depend on whether or not conditions underfoot are wet on the day.

The walk is 11 miles and a grade C walk. Total ascent is around 1,600 feet. Climbs are steady and sometimes steep but unlikely to feel excessively strenuous for experienced long walkers.

Hazards include uneven terrain; two crossings of a major road, and a few scrambly ascents/descents.

No dogs.

Toilets are available a short walk (50 yards) from the main car park.
Please ensure you leave yourself enough time for a toilet trip so that you’re still back and ready to start the walk on time.

Meet at Brooklands for a 9am departure. The walk will start at 10.30am. We’ll be going direct to the start. If you are, too, please let us know in advance so we know to wait for you … we don’t have phone signal in those parts.

This is a lovely walk that really wowed us the first time we walked it. If you’d like to come and share it, you’ll be very welcome.

Meet at Hollin Bank car park outside Bamford.
What three words: ///paths.admire.walks
Nearest post code: S32 1DY
Travel duration approx 1hr 10 mins.
The car park is £6.60 to park all day. You can pay with cash or card.
There is also parking along the road immediately outside the car park that you don’t have to pay for.
Directions via Snake Pass (you can also go via Castleton)
Take your desired route through Glossop and on to Snake Pass. Shortly after the bridge over Ladybower reservoir turn right at the lights towards Bamford. Before you get to the village you will see the Yorkshire Bridge Inn on your right. Take the next available left onto New Road which straight after a bus stop.
This narrow road with passing places will take you up the hill and below Bamford Edge. Carry on for about 1.5 miles and you will come down a hill to a T-junction. Turn right. Quite soon the road dog-legs to the right. There’s a small pay and display car park here, this is NOT the start point. Instead carry on for a further 3/4 of a mile and you will see the car park on the left. If you get to some toilets on the right, you’ve gone too far.
