What we’re about
Would you would like to go to classical and orchestral performances with others like you? You have found the right Meetup group.
Join us to attend concerts with a variety of orchestras, chamber music groups, vocal ensembles, university music programs, opera and more. (Did you know that in addition to our world class St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, there are 14 other orchestras performing regularly in the area?). Many of the concerts we attend are free to attend. And we often have a social gathering as part of our Meetup events. Whether you are new to classical music or a trained musician, you will be comfortable and enjoy our group.
Membership in the Symphony Meetup of St. Louis costs $5 per year, after a 60 day free trial, to offset the costs of the Meetup. We typically organize 25 to 35 events per year for members to choose from to participate. You can review past events and future schedules here on our Meetup pages. Join us for a musical adventure.

See all- ROARING... Art, Automobiles, Josephine Baker & the Confluence Chamber Orchestra.St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, MO
Fabulous and free experience at the St. Louis Art Museum, including a concert by the innovative Confluence Chamber Orchestra (CCO).
Your free admission to the art museum this day includes free admission (normally $20) to the dazzling new special exhibition about the art, fashion, cars and music of the jazz age of Paris entitled ROARING. Roaring: Art, Fashion, and the Automobile in France, 1918–1939
The free Confluence Chamber Orchestra concert will take place starting at 7:00 in the stunning Grigg Gallery, just off the main sculpture and entry hall. This beautiful setting is thought to have the best acoustics in the art museum. We expect seating to be quite limited. So, be there early to scout out seating or simply be prepared to stand.
The concert is entitled Josephine Baker in Jazz Age Paris. This performance features selections connected to St. Louisan Josephine Baker, a sensational dancer and singer from St. Louis who moved to Paris in 1925. She rose to stardom on the stage and screen, then during WWII, used her fame to became a heroic spy in the French resistance. She represented the pinnacle of style and sophistication in 1920s Paris.
Baker was an avid car collector, commissioning custom luxury automobiles from France’s leading coachbuilders. The Museum's special ROARING exhibition includes a Delage D8 car similar to what Baker owned, as well as a gouache, ink, and crayon maquette by French illustrator Émile Deschler capturing Baker in the distinctive feather hat and collar she wore at the Concours d’Élégance Automobile, a Parisian car and fashion show.
On this Free Friday at SLAM, you can get free tickets to the special exhibition anytime during the day. Starting at 4:00, the SLAM Social kicks in with a paid specialty cocktail bar in the entry hall and music evocative of 1920s France starting with Joe Park and the Hot Club of St. Louis.
The lovely café on the floor below the main hall has excellent lunch, lite dinner and snack fare available. And good coffee. I recommend it. It is open until 8:00 on Friday.
Free parking is available in lots across Fine Arts Drive from the front of the museum. However, some prefer to use the paid lot under the art museum which has security and offers a direct entrance into the museum from the garage. ($15/$5 for members)
About the Orchestra
Jaime Staengel, one of our Meetup Organizers, is a violist in the Confluence Chamber Orchestra. We anticipate she will be performing with the orchestra for this concert. Almost 50 of our members attended this orchestra's last concert at the art museum. The Confluence Chamber Orchestra (CCO) is a multigenerational amateur string orchestra, a confluence of ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Artistic Director William Bauer creates programs with interesting music that encourages players of all ages to enjoy learning and performing. The CCO works with museums, libraries, and community institutions to present educational concerts designed to complement a current exhibition or program and to enrich the cultural experience for a specific audience.
