What we’re about
Rust is a new exciting programming language with many innovative ideas and features. This group is for all people interesting in Rust in Munich (or outside).

Rust Munich Hacking Evening
👉 RSVP Opens ~1 week before the Event
We are excited to continue the new format of hacking one evening all together that we started in December 2024.
The feedback we received was very positive, and lots of people would appreciate spending more time on the solution discussion, more deep dive and discussing real code, even presenting their own solutions.
This time we are going to explore the solution space of the December 24 Event, so the results of the 1 billion row challenge.
Ludwig and Jonas will be guiding us through the solutions and the details on why which things worked well and which didn't
Event Format
For this mini hackathon, we aim to gather a small group of up to 24 people in one room to work together on a project without online streaming. We will provide the project task, and participants can work individually or in small groups. Initially, there will be up to 5 slides that describe the project and list the crates (dependencies) to use.
Within 2 hours, we want everyone to have completed the project. Code exchange and help should take place in a dedicated Discord channel.
What to Expect
This event is designed to be similar to university times when you had to solve small problems in the computer lab within an hour. The difference here is that people will learn things they can apply directly at their workplace, using the Rust programming language. At the beginning, we will focus on CLI tools so that everyone becomes familiar with Clap, argument parsing, error handling, and logging.
What You Need
To participate, please bring the following:
- Laptop or any own hardware with a screen
- Rust compiler (stable) or Docker with rustup
- IDE or editor of choice (e.g. zed.dev or VSCode or RustRover)
- GitHub account
- Discord account (optionally)
We will provide drinks and snacks to keep you fueled throughout the evening.
Directions
- by Public transportation: take the U6 to "Garching-Forschungszentrum" and walk ~10min
- by Car: take the A9 to exit "Garching Nord" then follow the sign towards "Forschungszentrum", there is a free park-house and park spaces directly on site at the SAP Building
Join Us
Don't miss this opportunity to learn, code, and connect with fellow Rustaceans in a hands-on environment. We look forward to seeing you there!
