What we’re about
Rock Climbers of San Diego meetup group (RSCD) brings together rock climbing enthusiasts of all experience levels through meetups at indoor climbing gyms and outdoor crags. Those new to rock climbing can benefit through beginner friendly meetups geared toward introducing the sport with some basic and beneficial information. Experienced climbers will easily find potential climbing partners through any of the gatherings this meetup has to offer. Members span the full gamut of climbing styles, from indoor gym climbing, to outdoor sport and multipitch traditional climbing, and even alpine/ice and mountaineering. Rock Climbers of San Diego promotes safe rock climbing through informational meetups that expose members to new safety concepts and techniques. RCSD members and organizers are constantly learning from others and happily sharing their knowledge. And most of all, we get out and climb!
Rock climbing is an inherently dangerous sport. Please be aware that this group consists of rock climbing enthusiasts and NOT rock climbing guides. Your safety is your responsibility.
Note: In July of 2023, this group had a hostile takeover and all 5,500 members were removed from the group. After getting the group back (I'm a longtime event host), I contacted meetup support and asked for their help. They were able to restore all 5,500+ members.

See all- April Climbing in Joshua Tree National ParkNeeds location
I have Group Site 6 reserved in Sheep's Pass in Joshua Tree National Park from Friday April 25 to Sunday April 27. I may be climbing with another group of climbers so if you plan on attending please be sure that either you are capable of setting up routes on your own or pair up with those that can do so. The more rope guns capable of setting up routes (and leading off smaller groups) the better so that we are not all climbing in the same area and hogging the crag. If you can set up routes and are willing to take out small groups of people out at different areas to climb, please state that you are willing to do so and how many people that you can accommodate.
This is not a meet up for inexperienced new climbers. To attend this meet up you must be capable of setting up your own climbs or partner up with someone who can set up climbs before attending.
The optional potluck will be Saturday night (not all dessert items please and if you plan on participating, please concentrate on one food item to share). Participation is not mandatory.
To encourage people to carpool, the cost will be $15 per car for the whole weekend regardless of how many nights you stay or the # of people in your car, so please carpool. Please bring $5 bills as I may not have change. I also accept Venmo (@Wing-Leong) or Zelle.
A separate entrance fee to enter the National Park is $30/car for 7 days. An annual Joshua Tree Park Pass is $55 for just Joshua Tree National Park itself. The America's Adventure Pass (cost $80) will get you into all National Parks for 1 year.
No +1s for the Meetup. Please have guests join meetup.com and RSVP themselves.
If you can not make it, PLEASE remove yourself from the RSVP list. The weather may be extremely variable during this time frame so be sure that you bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and firewood. Adverse weather conditions will cancel. The weather forecast is at this link: Joshua Tree 7 Day Forecast (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=34.00144280255186&lon=-116.12548828125&site=vef&smap=1&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text#.V87w7JgrKUk).
Some other information:- It can get very cold at night and yet be warm enough during the day to wear just t-shirts so plan on layering your outerwear accordingly.
- Don't forget to bring a headlamp if you're climbing in the afternoon as sunset is at 1924 hours the first day. I have climbed before with people who forget how quickly this sneaks up on you.
