Come along with us to enjoy an afternoon dive at the JMR Blanch Quarry with the Triangle Scuba Group!
This quarry is about a 40 minutes north of Hillsborough, near the VA state line. It is owned and operated by the PDRA (ncpdra.org) specifically by divers, for divers.
Like other dive quarries in the area, there are sunken vehicles and artifacts to explore, with underwater guidelines connecting them in easy-to-follow circuits. Visibility is often good, even at depth, which is something not all dive quarries around the Triangle can claim.
-We will meet at the front gate at 2:00 PM.
-For more detailed information, including personal contact information, please reach out to the event organizer on the Meetup App Event Message Tool, or send an email to our group at trianglescubanc@gmail.com.
-Please note that this is not a guided or supervised dive, but rather a group of certified divers diving together, with each individual completely responsible for themselves, including evaluating their own qualifications and readiness to dive, planning and executing their dives in a safe way, and providing their own equipment.
-I can bring along up to 3 divers in my car, if anyone wants to carpool. We can work out a meeting time and place based on what part(s) of the Triangle we are all coming from. Just let me know.
-This quarry has an aeration system which does a great job of preventing thermoclines and visibility degradation at depth. Nevertheless, it is still a quarry, so most divers will still want to wear full wetsuits.
-All divers will be expected to follow all the quarry rules as posted on the PDRA website, including the prohibition against solo diving, so we will need to buddy-up accordingly.
-Divers who are not PDRA members will be "guests" of the event organizer (Paul), and will be required to execute the online PDRA waiver upon arrival at the quarry gate.
Please note that guests are limited to two PDRA quarry visits per year. After that they will need to join.
-If you are not familiar with the PDRA JMR quarry, this meetup is a great opportunity to see for yourself this remarkable treasure. Please be aware that the PDRA limits non-members to no more than two visits per year at their dive quarries. However, if you are like many of us you will be tempted to join when you see the place and realize all that it has to offer local divers!
