Will AI Destroy Programming Jobs?

High School students can learn Java in AP Computer Science at schools all over San Diego county, but what they are lacking is the wisdom, experience and battle scars of a experienced programmer like you.

In this session, we will talk about how you can get involved in teaching Java to middle and high school students, even if you only have an hour to spare.

The [LEAGUE of Amazing Programmers](https://jointheleague.org) has been teaching 5th through 12th grade students Java for almost 20 years, and recently we've expanded the program to free introductory lessons in the [Tech Club](https://www.jointheleague.org/coding-programs/tech-club/) and more advanced topics in[ Code Clinic](https://www.jointheleague.org/coding-programs/tech-club/code-clinic/). These short classes allow professional programmers to introduce students to Java, or help them develop more advanced techniques, with just an hour commitment.

Some of the classes that you could teach:

* How to set up a new Java Project
* Getting started with Java in Github Codspaces
* Introduction to Java databases
* Introduction to generics
* All about Streams.
* Introduction to Java records.

The Code Arcade is a half day camp where students can build robots, program in Java and Python, build games or study AI: our instructors can guide your student through almost any programming or robotics program.

In this session we'll talk about how the Code Arcade works, and what fun technology you can explore.

Learn the basics of two fundamental concepts in computer science -- algorithms and abstraction -- using playing cards.

This class is designed for people who are interested in a gentle introduction to sorting and searching algorithms, with a particular focus on giving middle and high school Computer science teachers ideas for teaching their students.

Participants should have a deck of cards handy to participate in the lesson. After the lesson we will have an extended session for educators to talk about how to package the lesson for students.
