Welcome to Portland Music Producers!
We’re an inclusive community of music producers committed to finishing songs while uplifting each other. We are based out of Portland, OR, USA, but anyone is welcome.

What is a Music Producer?
A music producer takes an artist's vision and turns it into recorded music.
In function they may play a number of roles on a music production team:
- Songwriter: Composing, instrumentation, arranging, and lyric writing.
- Beatmaker: Sound design, sequencing, and embellishment.
- Audio Engineer: Recording, editing, mixing, and mastering.
- Vocalist: Vocals are often the most integral part of a production.
- Player: Creating and performing instrumentation for the production.
- Spiritual Guide: Helps artists explore, and relieve blockages.
- Record Producer: In charge of delivering a finished product by deadline.

Challenges and Collaboration
- Challenges - Weekly challenges, e.g. Explore the nuances of iconic sounds, the No Undo challenge, genre soup, goal mapping, vision boarding, make a song inspired by a favorite piece of art. And larger challenges, e.g. take on the roles of different music production archetypes as we match and help each other finish projects. Together, we share our discoveries in a collaborative learning setting.
- Build-a-Beat - Weekly community-wide collab where everyone can add one layer as we build up a piece of music together.
Journaling
- Explore your own individual journal space to log any thoughts, audio, struggles, works in progress, discoveries, clippings, (whatever you like, it's yours!). And get a truly inspiring window into your fellow producer's processes via their own journal entries!
Events and Calls
- Weekly video call touchbase
- Monthly in-person meetups at local recording studios (Portland, OR, USA)
- Session breakdown calls, where producers breakdown what went into a production
Roadmap:
- ✅ Phase 1: Connect and support each other virtually.
- We are currently connecting every Monday at 6p on calls.
- ✅ Phase 2: Plan our first in person meetups.
- ✅ Phase 3: Introduce more elaborate workshops, collaborative projects and more.

Join us for an April in-person meetup at Blue Butler Studios. The focus of this meetup will be composition and songwriting.
We will break out into groups of ~4-6. Each group will go to one of the equipped rehearsal rooms and write a song together.

Todd Marston is an award winning composer, instrumental songwriter & pianist. He facilitates a weekly composition/songwriting group on Monday nights at Second Story Studios in Woodlawn, focused on the creative spirit & principles of design in music making of all styles and skill levels.
Portland Music Producers is a proud partner of MusicPortland, the "united voice of Portland music". They are the nonprofit driving economic development, policy advocacy, and promotion of Portland as an audio production hub.
