January 23, 2025 Update
**This group has been an incredible success over the last two years. Many members have been attending weekly and have grown from a beginner level to an intermediate proficiency and we've adjusted our activities to match their progress. We would strongly recommend reviewing the basics of the Japanese writing systems: katakana and hiragana before your first meetup so that you can enjoy participating with the other members.**
We connect language learners with native speakers of Japanese or English. Practice speaking, find out about cultures, styles, history, current events, and meet new friends!
日本語や英語のネイティブスピーカーと語学学習者をつなぎます。スピーキングの練習をしたり、文化やスタイル、歴史、時事問題について学んだり、新しい友達に出会ったりすることができます。
日本語や英語を話したい人なら誰でも参加できます。年齢も、レベルも問いません。基本的にどんな人でも参加できますが、以下の基本的なガイドラインを守ることが期待されています。
- 個人は互いに尊重し合わなければならない。
- 物事を前向きに考えましょう。
- 本当に素晴らしい時間を過ごしましょう
レストランなどのカジュアルな環境で、自然な会話や練習のグループを作ります。そして、もしあなたが言語交換のパートナーを探しているのなら、ここで見つかる可能性が高いでしょう。しかし、私たちはクラスではありません。具体的な質問がある場合は、ここで答えを得ることができます。
People who want to speak (or listen to) Japanese or English may join. It is open to all ages and all levels of skill however, the regular attendees of this group are now at a lower intermediate Japanese level after meeting for 2+ years.
Generally speaking, all people are welcome to join this group, however it is expected that everyone abide by the following basic guidelines:
- Individuals must be respectful to one another.
- Let's keep a positive attitude about things!
- Let's have a really great time!
We meet nearly weekly in a casual environment such as a restaurant to play word games and practice speaking/reading/grammar. If you are looking for a language exchange partner, you may find one here!
We are not a class and would encourage you to self-study outside of this group.
If you have specific language questions, you can get answers here.
Please fill your application/profile as much as possible. On the language question, for example, you could say "English - Native, Japanese - Beginner" or vice versa.
Lastly, if you cannot make our Wednesday evening meetings, please do not use our Meetup page to solicit other group members to meet at times outside of our scheduled events. These kind of posts will be removed immediately to ensure the safety of all our group members. Reminder that if you choose to meet with someone from this group outside of the scheduled events, you assume all risk associated with such meeting. Thanks for your cooperation!
