
What we’re about
We are a the folks from PhotoManhattan School offering free and affordable photography classes in NYC, workshops and photo exhibitions on a monthly basis. All our events are booked with photographers and photo students from our school and remaining spaces are regularly opened for free for the members of this group. Other events and classes may have a nominal fee. You won't be alone. Just walk in head to the front desk, mention that you come from meetup.com, we'll be expecting you. For other photo courses and online webinars please view a wide range of photo classes from street photography, through Studio & Lighting, to TTL flash.
At exhibits, you'll find tons of people, up to 45 at times, music, complementary snacks and beverages, friendly people, and great photographs! You may socialize as much as you like, or simply watch the students' photo series on your own. Exhibitions are open to everyone.
Free classes can be anywhere from 5 to 20 students. They are structured classes, not just talks. We offer remaining spaces for free at meetup.com as often as possible. Some have hands on or outdoor shooting, depending on their description.

This course is a perfect complement to your iPhoneography class. Fully outdoors and hands-on. Take a journey into the world of Visuals, Learn the rules, break them and develop your own style. Theres one thing to know how to use your camera, but how do you create a visually appealing photograph? You have the tools, now lets put them to work. Learn all about the rules of composition, when to apply them, when to consider them, and… when to break them!
Made for all camera users alike (DSLRs - Phones), this course focuses on mastering the composition and design of your images and to quickly and efficiently enhance framing, composition and image design, color, pattern, texture, perspective, contrast, balance, lighting and all of the visual aspects of photography that you need to know. Sessions will include plenty of shooting assignments, in-class practice and experimentation, photo critiques of your own work, review of famous photographer's work as well of tons of image reviews that will enrich you and unleash your creative potential. You'll be assigned to photograph a series that you are welcome to showcase at the end of the course. (optional).
Requirements: ANY Camera; point and shoot, DSLR, Mirrorless and Phone cameras. No prior shooting knowledge is required, but we highly recommend knowing the basics of your camera or taking a Beginner's camera course in parallel.

Improve your imagery with this 2-hour seminar! This 2-hour photography class will cover common tricks and tips for shooting street shots, lighting control techniques, focus, background, perspective, and many more quick techniques that will instantly become handy for your next travel, candid, or city shots.Opened to all levels. Note, If you are enrolled in our Digital Photography I course, y you don't need this seminar, as this material will be covered during your course.
Requirements: Basic knowledge of your camera's function is recommended. (In manual or Automatic Mode). Any Digital or Film camera, SLR or Point & Shoot.

Class information:
This workshop is a continuation of iPhoneography. It will be a hands on shooting practice of the concepts learned previously: essential camera settings, such as night photography, exposure compensation, portrait mode, shooting tricks, and beyond.
In addition, workshop will introduce: in-camera edits, filters, color, trending accessories and props, and most popular phone applications, and a brief on framing, lighting and composition.
** Please note: this single day workshop focuses specifically on the phone's camera settings. - It will not cover general photography topics - which relate to all cameras- such as Lighting, Portrait, Composition, Street Photo, please refer to the corresponding course such as Digital Camera - A beginner's guide course, or equivalent course.
Requirements: Smartphone and basic understanding of the Phone's camera menus and settings.

This workshop is made for everyone, for foodies and fans, chefs and cooks alike. Using an iPhone or any cameras.Lighting is magical! While you could have the best food styling skills and props in place, your image just won't show if there isn't enough bright light. Similarly, images can come out dull, or flat, or lacking contrast, making food look less than fresh. And then... there's the direction of light, lack of texture, wrong reflections, and beyond.
This workshop will be a hands-on experiment on the whole set of lighting effects available for you to pop that color and brightness in your photos to result in the freshest juiciest food looks. We'll teach you how to work around most scenarios typical of indoor spaces, restaurants, kitchens, homes, and on location where lighting options are limited.
Topics will include working with overhead lights, window light, dark places, and neon light. Additionally, we'll introduce you to a myriad of lighting tricks to enhance your already beautiful photos with texture, contrast, and shine. Workshop will also include easy home-made studio setups that you can use immediatelly after class. Additionally, we'll show you simple accessories and work around techniques that will help you tons for many occasions.
Join us to learn how to make your existing lights work to your advantage and turn around your food photography! You'll be glad you did.
