See all- Sunset Lost Dutchman - Sat May 10Lost Dutchman State Park, Apache Junction, AZ
Hi Folks,
Let's catch a sunset at Lost Dutchman Park. Flat Iron at it's best.
Sunset is at approx. 7:16pm this evening, so we will be meeting in the Treasure Loop Trail parking lot at 6:15pm, which should give everyone time to find a composition and enjoy golden hour + sunset and blue hour.
Depending on the shots, a bit of hiking may be involved, but that's up to you and the shot you're trying to create.
According to the Parks website, the gates to the day use areas close at 8pm, although I have yet to have them close the gate on me. Regardless, leaving before 8pm would be a good idea.
There are entry fees into the park, please take a look at their website for amounts and self-payment methods. You can also park at 1st water trailhead and hike in from that way.
As always, send me a message if you have any questions about the event, gear, technique, etc.
See you out there.

Instagram: @jenn.richardson.photo - July Milky Way Meet Up - Wupatki National Monument - 2 Night EventWupatki National Monument, Black Falls Crossing, AZ
Hello fellow Photographers, this event will be updated with more details in the coming weeks.
Let's head up north during the heat of the summer for 2 nights and capture the Milky Way and maybe some star trails at the Wupatki National Monument.
Join us for an unforgettable night under the stars as we capture the beauty of the Milky Way! This event is perfect for photographers of all skill levels—whether you're just starting with night photography or looking to refine your astrophotography techniques.
📍 Location: Will update with specific location inside the Monument closer to date (although I do think capturing some ruins in the foreground would be an excellent shot).
Accommodations are the responsibility of each attendee, although, if temps are comfortable, I may be camping on nearby BLM lands. More info will follow as we approach the date.
What to Expect:
- A chance to photograph the Milky Way in a stunning dark sky location.
- Tips on camera settings, composition, and focusing in the dark.
- Opportunities to experiment with light painting and foreground elements.
- A relaxed, friendly environment to learn and share photography ideas.
Recommended Gear:
- A DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual settings.
- A fast wide-angle lens (f/2.8 or lower is ideal).
- A sturdy tripod.
- A remote shutter release or intervalometer.
- A headlamp with a red light option to preserve night vision.
Important Notes:
- This event is weather-dependent; if cloud cover is too thick, we may reschedule.
- Be mindful of light pollution—use red lights and avoid unnecessary screen brightness.
- Respect the natural environment and pack out any trash.
Come ready to embrace the night sky, connect with fellow photographers, and create celestial images!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hello fellow Photographers, this event will be updated with more details in the coming weeks.
Right now, I do know that the temps at the Monument can be up to 30 or more degrees cooler than in Phoenix, so let's head here for a brief reprieve and to enjoy the beautiful earth formations Arizona has to offer.
Accommodation is the responsibility of each attendee. Camping is available at the Monument. There may be BLM land nearby to also camp for free and hotels in nearby cities.
