Details
In this session we will read aloud from the work by Plato entitled Parmenides. We take turns reading aloud, though reading aloud is optional. No one has to. We all hear the words at the same time and react and think together.
This is one of the most difficult and most important of Plato's works. It is central to understanding his theory of Forms which pervades his body of work.
This work is about 60 pages in length. We will read no more than the first 10 and the last 10 pages.
There will be lots of explanation as we go along.
This session will be an opportunity to get to get an understanding of a key work which is challenging to comprehend though solo reading alone.
This simple method of reading aloud together brings us into direct contact with a great mind. It builds a deep understanding of the work, and generates a memorable personal reaction, in a way that a hearing of someone else's summary can't match. No preparation or previous study is required.
