You guys asked (and asked..) SO... this year we're getting our spook on, and having a big ol' Halloween party!
Mark your calendar and start brainstorming your costume - we're going old-school and having a Meetup party in the upstairs area at the Universal Bar. This venue has been a favourite Halloween spot for other meetup groups over the years, and has always been loads of fun... we're headed there this year due to popular demand. Come along for some chats, laughs, costumes and chaos - this should be an absolute cracker of a night. Group member Rob has generously offered his time and skills on the DJ decks, so he'll be keeping the tunes going for us on the night - make sure you say hi!
This will be a louder event than my usual ones... I typically try to choose bars where it's easy(ish) to chat, but this venue has more of a nightclub party vibe. Just a heads up in case that environment is not your jam, I know it’s not for everyone.
If you could all please keep your RSVP's up to date on this one I'd appreciate it. This will likely be a larger than usual crowd, and RSVPing will help me to keep a better handle on the numbers. If you're a serial non-RSVPer it's usually no worries, but please just hit the 'going' button this time around. Ditto if you can no longer make it - please just update your RSVP to reflect that. That would help me a lot.
Please be conscious that normal nightclub venue restrictions apply... being part of the meetup doesn't give you special access or allow you to skip the line. Get in early if you don't want to line up. Once you're in the Universal Bar, head towards the back and look for the stairs on the left hand side, then come on up and join the party! If security asks/checks at the stairs, just say you're with Susan and/or Meetup.
Newbie? No problem! We get new people at every event, so you won't be the only one. Come solo (most do), or bring your mates... all welcome!
Questions...
'Do I have to dress up?'
You won't be kicked out for not dressing up, but you will definitely be considered a party pooper. Some legends will go all out with their costumes, so at least make a little effort!
'What does it cost?'
It's free! I'll always try to keep our events free and inclusive... there are no tickets, no cost, no fuss, you'll just be responsible for buying your own drinks etc as usual.
'Can I bring a friend?'
Of course - just make sure your RSVP reflects that, please.
'Do we have exclusive use of the area?'
The upstairs area is booked for us until 11pm, but anyone can come on up after that. It should predominantly be meetup peeps upstairs for the majority of the night.
'Is there a theme for the costumes?'
Anything goes! Spooky, funny, cute - it's your call (so long as it's nothing so controversial the venue denies you entry, of course!).
'Is this just for singles?'
Nope - this event is open to anyone who wants to come along (as are all of my events). While a large portion of the people who attend ARE single, if you're just looking to build your social circle and make some new friends you are very welcome.
