What we’re about
I decided to create a perimenopause & menopause support group to help more Women feel connected, normalized and supported in this phase of life.
Some Women go through this transition with ease & have little to no symptoms. This group is NOT for you lol :)
This is the group for Women, who, like me, are being impacted in every or almost every aspect of life.
Since perimenopause kicked in hard for me, I’ve had scary panic attacks almost daily, debilitating hot flashes that feel like panic attacks, awful mood swings & depression, recently developed agoraphobia (wtf? I’ve never had this before?!), fear of driving (again-wtf?! this is totally new for me), a huge loss of confidence, loss of a sex drive, feeling overwhelmed at the most basic things (trips to Costco now give me panic attacks-again-wtf?!), brittle & dry hair, dry skin, social withdrawal (which is why I’m creating this group), joint pain from hell and PMDD (in the past I’ve only experienced PMS).
All of this has been incredibly scary for me. And for awhile, I thought I was alone in all of this.
I blamed myself for not being stronger & felt so inadequate & broken.
Then I started finding apps, blogs, podcasts & books on perimenopause & all of the pieces fell together! I wasn’t crazy! And I discoveredthat there are Women all over the world going through the same things! It was such a huge relief & comfort, it made me cry.
Since then, I’ve read alot of perimenopause blogs where Women say “I don’t feel like myself anymore”. That’s what I’m feeling, as well. And, I’m guessing alot of you feel like that too.
Unfortunately, perimenopause & menopause is still not something that we openly discuss or acknowledge in society. Alot of Women feel shame about it or fear they are going crazy. We feel compelled to hide it & continue to try & be the strong caretakers that we’ve been our whole lives.
I want to help change that for us.
And that begins by talking openly about what we’re experiencing.
And then talking to our families and friends. The more we talk & share, the less alone we’ll feel.
Right now, there is very little support or resources in Women’s healthcare for perimenopause & menopause. There’s HRT but that’s only a small fraction of what we need. Often these symptoms become so severe, alot of us have to stop working, or find less stressful jobs. As of now, there is no legislature to protect us in the workplace , while we go through these issues.
My hope is that by talking more openly about all of this, it will help facilitate changes in Women’s healthcare. When more of us post things on social media, the word is spread.
While we wait for better resources in Women’s healthcare, let’s use this group to lift eachother up, support eachother & connect.
Come as you are. Some days, I can’t even get out of my pj’s or shower. We don’t have to be pretty to meet, we just have to show up. :)
