What we’re about
Who are the Hash House Harriers?
We are the original drinking club with a running problem! An international community of like-minded running/walking + beer enthusiasts dating back to the 1930’s!
Hashing . . . it's a mixture of athleticism, sociability, hedonism and hard work; a refreshing break from the nine-to-five routine. Hashing is an exhilaratingly fun combination of running, orienteering, and partying, where bands of harriers and harriettes chase hares on five-to-ten kilometer-long trails (less for walkers) through town, country, jungle, and desert, all in search of exercise, camaraderie, and good times.
The origins of Hashing date back to cross-country paper-chases where a “Hare” lays out a trail and the “Hounds” follow the trail all the way to a beer stop. Thus exercise and social activities are combined into a drinking club with a running problem.
In Ottawa, hashing is composed of 3 separate mixed social running/walking clubs in the true Hash House Harrier's tradition. The groups meet on Monday and Thursday of each week in various locations in the Ottawa area come rain, snow, or sun.
