What we’re about

The Ocala National Forest Alliance (ONFA) is dedicated to assisting the United States Forest Service in educating the public, maintaining, protecting, and restoring the natural and cultural resources, scenic beauty, and health of our forest lands for the enjoyment and responsible use of present and future generations of people and wildlife.

We are a solution-oriented volunteer group that partners with the Forest Service to assist the agency with tasks and materials that it lacks the manpower or funds to accomplish independently.

The Ocala National Forest Alliance (ONFA) was influenced by dedicated Lake George District Forest Service employees who witnessed firsthand the damaging impacts of unmanaged recreation, uneducated visitors, and a recreational industry that is disconnected from the damage being dealt to roadways, wetlands, and the many sensitive ecosystems of this precious resource.

We are currently seeking volunteers in the following areas:

  • Field Rangers Patrols:
    • Forest Road Vehicle Patrols
    • Wilderness/Hiking Trails
    • Juniper Run Kayak/Canoe Trail
    • Paisley Mountain Bike Trails
    • Equestrian Trails
  • Forest Volunteers:
    • Manatee Education Docent: Silver Glen and Salt Springs
    • Pitman Visitor Center: Educational volunteers
    • Trail Maintenace Crews: Hiking, Biking, and OHV Trails
