From media to marketing to events to athlete representation and all levels of club operations, we'll meet monthly to network, share best practices and learn from world class stakeholders, influencers and experts. As the founder of Eat Soccer and organizer of the NYC Soccer Industry Meetup Group, I wanted to address the turning point we are at in this nation, around the globe and with the soccer industry.
Acts of injustice against Black Americans-including Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile, Eric Garner, and countless others-are a call to action for each of us to do our part in speaking up and working together to find solutions.
For those who may not know, I grew up in a small town in South Carolina, and my experiences there introduced me to bigotry, discrimination and overt, as well as systemic, racism from a young age.
It is for this reason that I was inspired to create the NYC Soccer Industry Meetup Group. I realize that there are barriers to participation in this sport at all levels of the game, and I know that providing FREE professional learning, networking and access to opportunities can help level the playing field. Just as important, I believe this is one contribution that I can make to help grow this sport for those who passionately embrace it.
To help tackle issues for people of color in the industry, I will be hosting a special virtual discussion on tomorrow (Tuesday, June 16th) at 2:00 p.m. featuring minority members of soccer media. Finding Diversity in Soccer Media will feature panelists George Metellus (Bein Sports USA), Juan Arango (Match commentator/Journalist) and Greg Jackson (For The Culture United podcast). They will be sharing their personal experiences, offering suggestions on ways media stakeholders can be more inclusive and providing advice to those who aspire to find their lane in soccer media.
