What we’re about

This group is called NYC Discovery because the accent is on “discovery” – to reveal not only NYC attractions known to everyone, but also more obscure, though equally significant sites in New York history, neighborhoods and popular culture. The goal is to be different and inventive in approach to walking tours -- depart from the average “cookie cutter” type of tour, and emphasize history and neighborhoods, but less on reiterations of dates and more on illustrative stories that will make the association with the site more memorable for the participant.

That’s why these tours are led by licensed guides and native New Yorkers that have actually taught history.

If you’re looking for something traditional, but at the same time different, this is the place to be. So if you are interested in walks of well-known neighborhoods like Greenwich Village or Central Park, you’ve come to the right place, but also keep in mind that this group may also explore roads less travelled, like Governors Island, Williamsburg, Sutton Place, or themes like Titanic New York, The Kennedys and the Roosevelts, From Warhol to Pollock: Art History New York, Literary New York, The Civil War, Alexander Hamilton, The Beatles or Bob Dylan.

There are also culinary tasting tours in ethnic and historic neighborhoods, like Arthur Avenue, Little Italy and Chinatown, Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill, with food sampling along the way. YUM! Let’s not forget tours of historic pub and taverns and scavenger hunts too. And then there’s holidays – like the Victorian Christmas and Halloween Gotham City Ghost Tours.

And don’t forget, walking tours are fun and cultural, and can allow the opportunity to meet new people. So if you are a native or just new to the city, this may be for you.

Alright, now that you’ve whet your appetites, there are some ground rules. The walks can generally last up to 2 hours, and they can range from $22 per person up to $40 depending on the tour, especially if it includes food or a museum visit.

Sorry, no dogs or audio or videotaping, and please note you are responsible for your safety and well-being, so be careful. Please be aware of your limitations on food and drink on tasting tours, including allergies, religious obligations, and potential effects on your personal health. Participants must be 21 or over with valid ID to participate on a historic tavern tour stop.

Alright shoes, let’s start walking!
