About us
Welcome!
We're a Colorado social group loosely organized around the FIRE community (Financial Independence Retire Early), although mainly that's just an excuse to meet interesting, thoughtful new people.
Because of this, our events are pretty varied and random in theme. But in general we tend to do things that are positive and healthy for both us and for the world at large. Come out and join the conversation!
We also have our own "Headquarters" building in Downtown Longmont which is open to people really looking to join something cool - you can learn more at https://www.theficollective.com/
Note: this group is a strictly non-commercial place for the free exchange of ideas. To serve that purpose, all members have access to a group-wide discussion board and other tools to foster open communication. However, using the provided group communication tools to promote your product or service offerings to our members is unacceptable and may result in removal from this group upon review by our Organizers.

Coffee & Community at East Simpson

Everyone is welcome, no matter where on the path you are. We’ll kick things off with some informal social time to connect and get to know one another, followed by a group discussion shaped by the questions that come up. You’re welcome to bring your own question—about financial independence or any other topic you’d like to explore—or simply listen, learn, and join in as you feel comfortable.
Please note: The coffee shop kindly hosts us with the expectation that each attendee makes a purchase. Please plan accordingly.

Sunday Morning Discussions: Planning for Climate Change
East Simpson Coffee Company, 201 E Simpson St, Lafayette, CO, USThis discussion will be based on an article examining the projected impacts of global warming on Boulder County. According to the article, the number of high wildfire–risk days in Boulder is expected to increase from a historical average of about 16 days per year to 230+ days per year by 2050. Days with temperatures over 95°F are also projected to rise dramatically, from a historical average of around 5 days per year to 42+ days per year by 2050.
Here are a few discussion questions to consider. Please also feel free to bring your own questions or reflections from the article:
- Are you factoring additional climate-related costs into your FIRE or long-term financial plans? If so, what kinds of costs and how much?
- Have you made changes to your home in preparation for climate impacts (for example, installing a heat pump for more efficient cooling, or creating defensible space to reduce wildfire risk)? If so, what did you do, and what motivated those choices?
- Do increasing wildfire risks or hotter, drier summers affect how you think about renting versus owning, or about where you choose to live (such as near forests or open space, in the city versus the mountains)?
Please note: The coffee shop kindly hosts us with the expectation that each attendee makes a purchase. Please plan accordingly.
