What we’re about

Welcome to the Northern Colorado Freethinkers Meetup group! We are a community of like-minded individuals who focus on promoting the separation of religion and government, discussing atheism, skepticism, and secularism. Our group is open to freethinkers, humanists, agnostics, theists, and atheists who have an interest in exploring and discussing topics related to reason, science, critical thinking, and keeping our government separate from religion. Join us for engaging conversations, community events, and a supportive environment for those who value rationality and evidence-based beliefs. Let's come together to discuss and celebrate our shared beliefs (or lack thereof) in Northern Colorado!

We actively and openly support the LGBTQIA+ community, women's rights, persons with disabilities, people of color, science, and the freedom to choose your own beliefs.

We will be hosting events in Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins. If you are able to come to any events in these areas, we hope you'll join us!

NoCo Freethinker Group Guidelines:
Our community is built on a foundation of inclusion, safety, and respectful open discussion. These guidelines exist to help us maintain a space where all members feel welcome, heard, and supported.
1. Be Respectful
Treat everyone with kindness, consideration, and respect. Disagreement is natural—personal attacks, sarcasm meant to belittle, or hostile language are not acceptable.
2. Create a Safe Space
This is a space for people to show up as themselves. Harassment, discrimination, or any behavior that makes others feel unsafe or excluded will not be tolerated.
3. Practice Active Inclusion
Make room for everyone to contribute. Be mindful of who’s speaking and who isn’t—invite those who are quiet to join the conversation, step back if you tend to take up a lot of space.
4. Assume Good Intentions, Stay Accountable
We all make mistakes. If someone gives you feedback about your words or behavior, listen with openness. If you’re giving feedback, do so with care and the intention to grow together.
5. Respect Privacy
What’s shared in this group stays in this group, unless someone has given clear permission to share it elsewhere.
6. Use Inclusive Language
Language matters. Avoid assumptions about people’s identities, backgrounds, or beliefs. When in doubt, ask—or simply listen.
7. Speak From Your Experience
Use “I” statements and avoid generalizations. This helps keep discussion grounded in personal experience and avoids unnecessary conflict.
8. Zero Tolerance for Hate or Harm
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any form of hate speech or harm are not welcome here, period.
9. Bring Curiosity, Not Judgment
We’re here to learn from each other. Ask questions, share ideas, and remain open—even (especially) when you don’t agree.
10. Moderation & Accountability
Community moderators reserve the right to intervene when guidelines are not being followed. This could include a private conversation, a warning, or removal from the group.
