Securing Java applications from code commit to deployment using Sigstore
by Andrew Block, Distinguished Architect at Red Hat

Context:
Recent attacks against the security of popular enterprise and open source software have resulted in an increasing focus into assessing how software is built, packaged and delivered. These vulnerabilities have the real potential to inflict reparatory and financial harm, and in some cases, jeopardize national security. As a result, more and more nationalities are drafting legislation to enforce that organizations take measures to ensure the security of the software they are producing and running.

So, as a Java developer, what can you do to ensure that your applications are not only secure, but compliant with the increasing number of regulatory requirements?

In this session, attendees will learn how Sigstore, a Linux Foundation Open Source project, can be used to increase the overall security of applications by providing a comprehensive set of tools that can be incorporated at various phases of the Software Development Lifecycle; from code commit, artifact generation, runtime, and more.

As a takeaway, attendees will be equipped with a concrete set of assets that they can utilize in their own Java applications to increase their overall security posture.

Speaker:
Andrew Block is a Distinguished Architect at Red Hat who works with organizations throughout the world to design and implement solutions leveraging cloud native technologies. He specializes in embracing security at every phase of the Software Development Lifecycle and delivering software in a repeatable and consistent manner. Andrew has authored several publications related to the cloud native ecosystem including “Managing Kubernetes Resources Using Helm” and “Kubernetes Secrets Management” in order to share his knowledge with others. He holds several roles in the Open Source community and is a core maintainer of Helm, a package manager for Kubernetes and a maintainer on the Sigstore project which aims to simplify the process for signing and verifying content.
